The Old Argument!

Have you heard the old argument,  "yeah, but I speak English, and in English the Saviour's name is JESUS!".  Why not use the name  "Joshua", isn't that English?

You see the problem is that  "Joshua" is translated from Hebrew manuscripts, and  "Jesus" is translated from Greek manuscripts.  Jesus is a transliteration from the Greek word IhsouV (Iesous).  In the Septuagint the name of Joshua is translated in numerous forms, such as, Ihsoi, Ihsou, Ihsoun, IhsouV, and Ihsoue.  Why do we arbitrarily choose "Iesous" as the one to transliterate from?

Even the Greek New Testament shows IHSOUN in Matthew 1:21.  But the question still remains, Which name is the only one under heaven given to men whereby we must be saved?  The Greeks give us quite a list!  You see it all depends on which base the translators used and what his beliefs are.

Barry Fell shows in his book America B.C. that Libyans used the form  "Yaswa"(resembling Yasua) for the Saviour's name.  I have a photo copy of an African New Testament prepared by Fred. Schenker translated from the original into Temne, in it he refers to the Saviour as Yisua Masia.  Obviously he is translating from a Hebrew text, and referring to YAHUSHUA Mashiach, but in big letters on the cover page it arbitrarily says, THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO ST. MATTHEW.  The cover page is the only page with English on it.  Can you imagine the confusion this could bring some literate African.  They call the Saviour Yisua, but really its  "Jesus" according to the title page.

Down through the years scholars have prepared their versions, depending on whether they were translating from Greek or Hebrew determines whether they show a form resembling Joshua or Jesus.

If the Greeks were true to transliteration to begin with we would never had this problem, and the whole world would be engulfed with the true name.

This is partly what Aquila attempted to do, set the record straight for the rest of the world to follow, he gave us the form IESOUA (a perfect transliteration of Yeshua).  The name of Joshua    has part of the sacred name in it, the concept is in the King James Version as (Jehoshua Num. 13:16) but originally it was Yahushua, this can be perfectly transliterated into Greek as  Iaussoua.

Paul transliterated correctly, on the road to Damascus the Saviour spoke to him, Paul said, "and when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou Me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.  And I said, Who art thou Master?  And He said, I am YAHUSHUA whom thou persecutest." Acts 26:14, 15.  The Saviour certainly didn't say  "Jesus", for He was speaking  "in the Hebrew tongue", and He certainly didn't pause in the middle of His sentence to utter a Greek-Latin  name.

The Saviour said further, "he is a chosen vessel unto Me, to bear My name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for My name's sake." Acts 9:16

"And he spake boldly in the name of the Master YAHUSHUA, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him." Acts 9:29

YAHUSHUA told Paul  "rise, stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee; delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness (of error) to light (truth), and from the power of Satan unto Elohim, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me." Acts 26:16-18

Paul further states, "I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision." Acts 26:19

If folks only knew how Satan hates the Saviour's name and deliberately destroyed all the early manuscripts.  The manuscripts had to either conform to Satan's Grecian name game or be destroyed.  But the Truth can be discovered in taking the Bible as a whole, not surface reading either, but dug for as hidden treasure.  Blessed be the name of YAHUWAH!  HalleluYAH!
